London Hip Hop

Got Skills? Prove it. Got Love? Show it.

Interview with Sneaks of the Makeshift Einsteins.

Sneaks of the Makeshift Einsteins took time out and gave us this interview, Big ups!

How did you get started?

I personally wouldn’t have started making hip hop music if it wasn’t for my older brother Adam (Catalyst519), he was in it with Mat Labatt, Thesis Sahib and GSG making tracks for a few years and then I thought, “Hey, I can write too” So I started working on my craft! Most of my high school days were spent writing lyrics to make songs I would one day record, and playing sports. I met my homie Hades at a party and we made some tracks together sometime in the year 2000… with Mat Labatt and Chills from GSG. Hades introduced me to his friend Helix from Lambeth and we ended up making tracks together around the same time. Eventually Hades, Helix, and me (Sneaks) would make up the “Makeshift Einsteins” a few years went by and we added DJ Dubble (theealwayscrashcadet) from PHC to our family.  He's our offical show DJ and when the new album drops he will be doing cuts. That’s basically how I (Sneaks) got started and Makeshift was formed over the years.

Who are your influences?

I guess listening to my dad’s music influenced me a lot growing up… I can’t speak for the rest of my crew but I love classic rock or any type of music with heavy drums and great sounding melodies… but it was just something about hip hop that I couldn’t turn away from… the elements and strange crowd that seemed to follow made me very interested. I we just decided to add our own twist to our music with hip hop roots. Now a days you can find us listening to such labels and artists as:

What do you think about the London hip hop scene?

Even when I was underage I was trying to “Sneak” into local hip hop shows, I love hip hop and seeing new kids come up with clever ideas and not just trying to follow the same styles around. London has a variety of fresh crews and new types of music coming out of it… I’m a fan. I think we need more open mics and more venues need to showcase hip hop. It’s the closest music to the majority of youths in this city and they should be taking advantage.

Any story behind your name?

Some say Mat Labatt had a hand in our precious name. I’m gonna say it was fate. Back in the day, they thought he was some crazy but he taught them E= MC’s are Square.

Quote:
"So I was like "AAAAAHHHHHH"
And she was like "OOOOOHHHHHH"
And that’s it man”

Any stories about a show you did?

We’ve done tons of shows and hopefully made new fans all over. We’re hoping to do more shows throughout Ontario and Canada once the new album drops. Just to name drop: The Embassy hotel has definitely provided us with lots of shows and we always have fun. Thanks Eedy.
